Set within the walled garden of a Grade II Listed country house in Wiltshire this private indoor swimming pool and fitness complex includes a sauna, steam room, kitchen/bar and home cinema facility.
The project posed significant heritage and complex engineering challenges including limiting the height of pool structure so as to remain below the top of the adjacent 3 metre high Listed garden wall. This in turn required excavation and lowering of the pool well below the foundation level of the adjacent wall.
Running the full length of the building is a glazed clerestory rooflight which separates the building from the perimeter wall whilst providing generous levels of daylight deep into the rear of the building.
Here, shadows cast by the structural glazing bars create a contemporary sun dial and give a sense of time to the interior space.
A series of sunken terraces are landscaped into a formal, symmetrical garden layout in front of the building with south facing sitting and barbecue areas.
