JOHN ASHTON - PARTNER

Dip. TP (Oxford) MRTPI

  John Ashton

In the UK, town planning and architecture are inseparable in creating an attractive built environment, yet few UK town planning consultancies find both town planner and architect under one roof. West Waddy ADP is an exception, employing both town planners and architects working on an increasingly diverse portfolio of UK commissions.

The Abingdon, UK based town planning and architectural practice is this year celebrating its 120th anniversary.

The partnership was formed in 1999 by the merger of West Waddy with ADP, headed by town planner John Ashton - heralding the joining of the town planner and the architect in a single office.

In the ever-changing world of town planning and architecture, 120 years continuous service puts West Waddy ADP in a unique position within UK town planning and architectural firms.

A Town Planner is like a diplomat, barrister and lawyer; creating the circumstances where things can happen.

Most building work goes ahead when planning permission is granted. This applies to one-off extensions through to whole town developments. It can be a complex, unwieldy process, interwoven with local politics. The Town Planner deals with all this and even highlights when permission is not needed.
